Officers 2022: Business and Field
All leadership positions in the 1st Nebraska are decided upon by a vote of the membership. Voting is held annually during the January meeting.
A business officer holds a term for two years, and may be in office for no more than two terms. Business offices are President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Quartermaster. In the event that someone is finishing another person’s term, it is possible that he or she may be in office for five consecutive years. After finishing the second term, the business officer is required to step down to allow others to move into that position. Offices are voted on a rotating basis so that someone with at least one year of experience is in a leadership position at all times. President, Treasurer, Historian, are voted on during odd numbered years and Vice President, Secretary, and Quartermaster, are voted on during even numbered years.
Other officers such as Chaplain, Civilian Coordinator, and members of the Authenticity Committee are one-year terms, with no limit on the number of terms able to serve.
A field officer holds a term for two years, but there are no term limits. Also the number of officers and NCO’s depend on the number of members within First Nebraska on December 31st of the preceding year (please see Unit By-laws for details). For example we need at least 30 members in order to have a Lieutenant. Captain, 1st Sgt., and 1st Cpl. are voted on during even numbered years and 1st Lt., 2nd. Sgt., and 2nd. Cpl. and 3rd Cpl. are voted on during odd numbered years. Again the number of field officers depend on the number of members within the Unit on December 31st of the preceding year.
